Study Tips: Memorization

As a student, the best way to remember what you've studied is to understand it. But some things are just past understanding and you just have to memorize it - I'm talking about you Krebs Cycle...

Anyway 😅 If you're looking for easy tips on how to memorize faster look no further! These are my top 5 memorization hacks:

1) Repeat, repeat, repeat

There's really no way around this one. The more you repeat it to yourself, the more likely you are to memorize it. Think of this as muscle memory - the more you do it, the easier it is. You can write it out, say it out loud and test yourself over and over again until you memorize it.

2) Color code

If you associated a topic with a color you are more likely to remember it! Check out my other blog post for more information about this: Study Tips: Color Coding Your Notes

3) Mnemonics & back stories

Try to come up with a funny mnemonic or back story for what you're trying to memorize! This works really well when you're trying to memorize something "dry". Here's a pretty popular example:

You can also try Googling mnemonics about what you're studying. There are already so many great ones to choose from!

4) Keep moving

When I need to memorize something I find myself walking around my room, speaking out loud 😅 It might sound silly, but trust me it works! If I'm sitting down I'm too easily distracted. By walking around and moving the only thing you can really focus on is what you're trying to memorize!

5) Flash cards

This one might be time consuming, but it works. You can use paper flashcard or digital flashcard. Personally I prefer using Quizlet - its super easy to use and thanks to their app you can use it anywhere!
